The Dixie Baptist Church in Clarkston is raising funds to restore its iconic roadside sign—which currently reads, “Are You on the Right Road?”—and Jesus People for Animals, PETA’s Christian division, is stepping up to the plate with an offer of $500 toward the church’s campaign, provided church officials agree to display a message from the group for a week that reads, “The Road to Hell Is Paved With Bacon. Go Vegan.” Jesus People for Animals—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—hopes the sign will remind everyone that the meat industry is hell on Earth for pigs and other animals raised and killed for food.

“Jesus People for Animal’ proposed sign is the perfect way to remind the Clarkston community that merciful dominion means caring for God’s creatures, not eating them,” says Jesus People for Animals Director Sarah Withrow King. “Every day, animals used by the meat industry are denied everything God intended for them, and all of us have the opportunity to help end cruelty to animals just by leaving them off our plates.”
