With mobile eateries everywhere stepping up to meet the surging demand for delicious, convenient vegan meals, PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—has chosen the best of the best with its list of the Top Five Vegan Food Trucks.
“Each one of PETA’s winners is helping to make delicious vegan foods easier to find than ever,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “With creative menus that are as delicious to eat as they are convenient for diners on the go, these all-vegan food trucks are helping more people to spare animals suffering and improve their own health.”
This year’s top five includes Seed on the Go—owned by Jerri Hastey, mother to longtime vegan actor Jessica Chastain—which steals hearts in California’s Sonoma County with offerings such as the sweet and creamy Chia Tapioca Parfait. The others who topped PETA’s list are Detroit’s Shimmy Shack, known for its classic American lentil burger and other family favorites; Louisville’s V-Grits, where the Hot Brown Melt, a vegan version of an iconic local dish, flies off the grill; Gmonkey Mobile in Connecticut, whose Feisty Monkey Peanut Soba Noodles, served over a bed of greens and topped with cilantro house dressing, is a favorite for locals and visitors alike; and BBQ Revolution, which dishes up an authentically Texan BBQ in Austin.
