You’ve Gotta Be ‘Kitten’ Me: A Month of Free Cat Spays
It’s kitten season, which means that animal shelters will soon be flooded with litter after litter of unwanted kittens, far more than can ever find good homes. That’s why PETA’s mobile clinics are making an unprecedented offer: We’re spaying and neutering cats all month long for free. Yes, you read that right: free. Needless to say, PETA’s “Are You ‘Kitten’ Me?” spring event has been a huge hit. Here are just a few of our satisfied customers:
Kitten season, the prime breeding time for felines, is the best time to ensure that fewer animals contribute to the companion-animal overpopulation crisis. PETA’s mobile clinics are on track to spay or neuter more than 1,000 animals this month, which will prevent the births of countless kittens. It is estimated that one female cat and her offspring can be responsible for the births of 370,000 kittens in seven years. Right now, there are an estimated 80 million homeless cats nationwide.
As an added benefit of spaying or neutering, sterilized animals live longer and happier lives, are less likely to develop cancer of the reproductive system, and are less likely to roam, fight, or contract deadly contagious diseases.
