Eleven-year-old Albuquerque resident Angelina Austin has just been named one of the top four female finalists in PETA Kids’ 2015 Cutest Vegan Kids contest—and now it’s up to voters to help PETA Kids decide whether it should select her to take home the top prize. Two winners—one girl and one boy—will each receive a trophy, a cruelty-free prize pack, and a year’s worth of bragging rights.
Angelina decided to go vegan as soon as she learned about the abuses endured by animals killed for food, and since then, she’s been outspoken in letting others know how easy and fun it is to choose delicious animal-friendly foods. And she’s always sure to buy only cruelty-free items for her impressive cosmetics spread. An avid collector of all things My Little Pony, Angelina loves baking vegan cupcakes, creating her own videos, and dancing flamenco in her spare time. Her favorite foods are vegan chocolate-chip cookie dough, Tofurky sandwiches, and bean burritos.
“From spreading the word about tasty vegan foods to showing off her cruelty-free cosmetics, Angelina is always eager to be a friend to animals,” says PETA Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns Marta Holmberg. “All the kids who entered the contest are winners in PETA Kids’ book because they’ve made the switch to healthier, animal-friendly foods.”
More and more people go vegan every year. Besides the indisputable health benefits of ditching meat and other unhealthy animal products, vegans, on average, have a smaller carbon footprint than their meat-eating counterparts, and each vegan saves the lives of more than 100 animals each year.
Voting on the finalists to help PETA Kids decide whom it should choose as the winners runs until April 10, and the two winners will be announced on April 13. PETA Kids, whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat,” will select the winners based on several factors, including vote count. See the full contest details here.
