As part of the Clinton Global Initiative, M4D3’s (Make a Difference Everyday) unique footwear is created with a purpose: to create social change. And starting today, socially conscious shoppers can help the environment and animals, thanks to a brand-new limited-edition PETA vegan leather espadrille (photos available here). A portion of the proceeds from each purchase—available for pre-order through the PETA Catalog and from Made-Shoes.com beginning in May 2015—will go to support PETA’s work. And for a limited time, the shoes will also be available for a discounted price.
“Providing cruelty-free footwear options that are just as stylish as they are kind to animals and the planet is a vision that M4D3 and PETA share, so I couldn’t be more pleased to offer a line of special-edition PETA espadrilles,” says M4D3 President Steven Reynolds. “They are fun, stylish and well made, with a message that wearing vegan is always on-trend.” The espadrille is a Mediterranean-style flat, slip-on shoe with a jute rope sole. Each shoe is made with 100 percent vegan materials and features the M4D3 logo on a tag and the PETA logo on the inner sole and on the back of the shoes.
“Vegan fashion is on the rise as shoppers realize how kind, eco-friendly, and beautiful animal-free clothing and accessories can be,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “M4D3’s unique mix of style and social justice is the perfect match for a special-edition PETA shoe.”
The M4D3 x PETA collection spares cows painful mutilations in the leather industry, and vegan shoes are also kinder to the environment, as tanneries use highly toxic mineral salts, formaldehyde, coal-tar derivatives, and various oils, dyes, and finishes—some of which are cyanide-based—that can pollute nearby water and soil and make local residents sick.
