PETA’s costumed “cow” will have some extra freebies for attendees at Thursday’s marijuana seed giveaway: a delicious spread of vegan munchies and vegan starter kits for the crowd, each item decorated with a sticker proclaiming, “Say No to Pot (Roast).” PETA’s point? That an addiction to meat has devastating consequences for animals, human health, and the environment—meaning that all caring people should kick the habit.

Where:           Libertine, 2435 18th St. N.W., Washington, DC

When:             Thursday, March 26, 5 p.m.

“Meat is linked to increased risks of suffering from heart attacks, cancer, and diabetes—talk about a gateway to disaster,” says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. “PETA wants everyone to know that reaching for a vegan snack when the munchies hit is one of the best decisions for animals and human health.”

PETA, whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat,” points out that in today’s industrialized meat and dairy industries, chickens and turkeys have their throats cut while they’re still conscious, piglets have their tails cut off and are castrated without being given any painkillers, fish suffocate or are cut open while they’re still alive on the decks of fishing boats, and calves are torn away from their mothers within hours of birth.
