With the NBA playoffs only a few short weeks away, fans have a new reason to celebrate: PETA’s ranking of the Top Five Vegetarian-Friendly NBA Arenas. And as NBA legend John Salley announces in a new video posted today on PETA’s website, Chesapeake Energy Arena, home of the Oklahoma City Thunder, snagged second place this year, thanks to its delectable offerings, including a portobello mushroom veggie burger and grilled vegetable wraps in concessions, Sloppy Janes and a vegan salsa sampler in the suites, and Vidalia onions stuffed with quinoa and cranberry pecan wild rice at the Center Court Grill.
“With so many mouthwatering animal-friendly dishes at the arena, Oklahoma City Thunder fans never have far to go for a vegan snack on game day,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “As more NBA stadiums than ever get on the ball with delicious vegan snacks, PETA is calling on others to join the cruelty-free charge.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—awarded the first-place spot in its top five to American Airlines Center, home of the Dallas Mavericks and a summer vegetable and tofu flatbread. The Toronto Raptors’ Air Canada Centre nabbed third place, boasting loaded vegetable subs and vegan sushi, while the Portland Trail Blazers’ Moda Center took home fourth for its to-die-for vegan farro kale pesto salads. The Cleveland Cavaliers’ Quicken Loans Arena earned the fifth spot with its Thai tofu stir-fry and vegan hot dogs.
Each winner will receive a framed certificate.
