PETA Statement re Exotic and Wild Animals Banned From Santa Monica Pier
For Immediate Release:
February 25, 2015
Santa Monica City Council has prioritized animal welfare and public safety by banning exotic and wild animals from places frequented by the public and effectively made the Santa Monica Pier a safer and more enjoyable tourist attraction, where visitors will no longer be put at risk and animals will not be exploited. Most of the animals exhibited on the pier are birds and reptiles who suffer tremendously and are denied even the basic protections of the federal Animal Welfare Act.
