PETA Statement re Shearling in New Ralph Lauren Collection
A no-fur policy is great step, and we urge Ralph Lauren to take more because today’s kind modern shoppers are turning away from all animal-derived fabrics—including wool, leather, and shearling (which can take up to 25 to 45 individual sheep hides to make just one garment). PETA’s recent international exposé of the wool industry revealed that gentle sheep were punched, stomped on, and even killed by impatient shearers—acts that most people would agree are far from ethical.
