Ask anyone walking down the street what they know about PETA and one of the first things they’ll mention is our “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ads. This iconic campaign will live on forever, and because of its success, most people are now well-educated about the cruelty of the fur industry. So, several PETA members decided to revamp the movement to spread awareness of another trade that’s cruel to animals but that few people are aware of: the wool industry.

Animal advocates across the Midwest took off their clothes and took to the streets for PETA’s new “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Wool” campaign:

There’s nothing warm and fuzzy about the abuse that the wool industry inflicts on sheep. PETA’s international exposé of the major wool-producing regions of Australia and the U.S. shows workers violently punching sheep in the face, stomping and standing on the animals’ heads and necks, throwing them, mutilating them with sharp metal clippers, and even beating them in the face with electric clippers and a hammer. Some sheep died from the abuse, including one whose neck was twisted.
