East Bridgewater Firefighters Receive PETA Award for Rescuing Dog From Icy Pond

First Responders Save Animal From Chilling Fate

On Sunday, the East Bridgewater Fire Department rushed to the aid of a dog trapped in an icy pond, using an ice sled to traverse the freezing waters and reunite the dog with her frantic guardian. And now, the firefighters are in for a tasty surprise, as PETA honors the quick-thinking first responders with a Compassionate Fire Department Award, along with a box of vegan chocolates, a letter of congratulations, and a copy of The Engine 2 Diet, a Texas firefighter’s 28-day plan for staying in prime firefighting shape through eating plant-based meals.

“The East Bridgewater Fire Department’s quick and determined response to this Loki’s plight meant the difference between life and death for her,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA hopes their story will inspire others to take a page from the firefighters’ book and always come to the aid of animals in need—and remind all dog guardians to keep their animal companions safely on a leash at all times.”
