PETA to Shock Philadelphia Shoppers With Graphic Video of Wool Cruelty

Blindfolded Models Will Expose How Wool Industry Workers Beat, Stomp On, and Mutilate Sheep

What:             Wearing little more than oversized white sweaters and blindfolds, three models will display a mutilated, sheared “sheep” alongside signs that proclaim, “Don’t Pull the Wool Over Your Eyes!” in downtown Philadelphia on Tuesday to call attention to the wool industry’s cruelty to sheep. Other PETA supporters will screen video footage from PETA’s international exposé of the wool industry in Australia—the source of 90 percent of the world’s merino wool—and the U.S., which revealed that workers violently punched scared sheep in the face, stomped and stood on the animals’ heads and necks, and beat and jabbed them in the face with electric clippers and a hammer. Some sheep even died from the abuse, including one whose neck was twisted until the animal died. The worker who killed the sheep admitted, “I get angry.” “To produce wool sweaters, gentle sheep are punched in the face, slammed into the floor, stomped on, and even killed by impatient shearers,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s motto reads, in part, that  ‘animals are not ours to wear,’ and we’re calling on all kind people to leave wool out of their wardrobes and off their shopping lists this season.” When:             Tuesday, December 23, 12 p.m. Where:           JFK Plaza, at the intersection of John F.
