If you’re walking down Orchard Street this holiday season, be on the lookout for vegan boutique MooShoes’ #WoolFreeWinter window display, a collaboration with PETA and the first of its kind.
Just in time for the holidays, the eye-catching display reading, “Love Sheep—Don’t Wear Them,” encourages shoppers to visit PETA.org to learn how sheep suffer for the wool industry and to discover the many cruelty-free options available. Shoppers will be able to check out the window display through the first week of 2015—the year of the sheep—and can enter to win a holiday gift from MooShoes (complete with PETA swag) by tagging relevant Instagram photos with #WoolFreeWinter. It’s all in support of PETA’s motto, which reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear.”
“This holiday season, MooShoes and PETA are asking everyone to give sheep a little comfort and joy by choosing wool-free sweaters, scarves, and blankets,” says PETA fashion coordinator Christina Sewell. “It’s never been easier to find affordable, top-quality designs that are as stylish as they are kind to gentle sheep.”
PETA’s shocking video of the wool trade in the U.S. and Australia (the source of 90 percent of the world’s merino wool) revealed that sheep were cut to shreds, kicked, and punched by shearers. Some sheep even died from the abuse, including one whose neck was twisted until the animal died.
MooShoes’ East Coast boutique is located at 78 Orchard St. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
