Ariana Grande, Jessica Chastain, Cory Booker: Rescued Chickens Who Paint

Ariana Grande, Jessica Chastain, and Cory Booker are getting a holiday gift that likely no one else in the world will have: original chicken artwork, painted especially for each one by a rescued chicken who shares his or her name.

All three of these vivacious vegans save an estimated 32 chickens every year. And they all love to talk about how great they now feel, inside and out, in order to encourage other people to do the same. So when Animal Place, a terrific organization that runs sanctuaries and promotes veganism and animal rights, rescued almost 100 hens (and a rooster named Elvis) from a factory egg farm, PETA hosted an adoption event where they all found loving homes. We decided to honor Ariana, Jessica, and Cory by naming one of the animals after each of them and sending them each an original abstract from the animals.

Ariana, Jessica, Cory, and all the other rescued chickens are now enjoying life as beloved family members, a far cry from their miserable existence as egg-laying machines. Most hens used for eggs are crammed into cages the size of a filing cabinet drawer—with up to nine other hens—where they stay until their egg production wanes. And when farms “depopulate” hens whose egg production has dropped, as the farm in this case was doing, the animals are usually sent to slaughter.

We know that Ariana Grande, Jessica Chastain, and Cory Booker will all keep urging everyone they know to go vegan and save animals’ lives. And we’re confident that Ariana, Jessica, and Cory, the rescued chickens, will have the same effect on people who meet them.
