PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel Delcianna Winders has released the following statement:
Thanks to the Austin City Council, elephants in Austin may soon be protected from bullhooks—weapons that resemble a fireplace poker with a sharp hook on one end. The council voted unanimously today to move forward with legislation that would ban the instruments, as the City Council in Oakland, Calif., just voted to do this week and Los Angeles voted to do last year. PETA looks forward to seeing the Austin City Council enact the ban so that elephants will be spared abuse in the city.
