Statement From PETA re New York’s Pending Horse-Drawn Carriage Bill

PETA’s statement on Mayor Bill de Blasio’s legislation banning horse-drawn carriages in New York City follows:

“PETA looks forward to seeing Mayor de Blasio’s bill passed and put into action in 2016, when horses will no longer be forced to live a nose-to-tailpipe existence in New York City,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “This bill will be a win for everyone, including pedestrians, who will no longer be at risk of injury from startled horses, and the former carriage operators, who will be provided with and trained for new careers.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—has called for an end to the horse-drawn carriage industry for years. More information about PETA’s campaign is available on our website.
