Move over, Jared—Subway has a new way to eat healthy this holiday season: delicious faux-meat vegan sandwiches. And on Monday, D.C. residents can try the new sandwiches for free, courtesy of a pair of PETA’s sexy “Lettuce Ladies” who will brave the cold in nothing but strategically placed lettuce leaves as they encourage passersby to “turn over a new leaf” and go vegan—the best way not only to banish the holiday bloat but also to reduce the risk of suffering from heart disease, strokes, diabetes, cancer, and obesity.
When: Monday, December 1, 12 p.m.
Where: Subway, 3306 14th St. N.W. (near the intersection with Park Road N.W.), Washington
“PETA wants everyone to know how easy it is to turn over a new leaf this holiday season,” says PETA Lettuce Lady Lindsay Rajt. “With delicious vegan meals widely available, including Subway’s new sandwiches, now is the perfect time to make the switch to kinder, gentler, healthier foods.”
The new vegan options—including a Riblet sandwich of tender veggie protein slathered in sweet and smoky barbecue sauce and the Malibu Garden sub, a vegan patty topped with fire-roasted tomato sauce—are now available at select Subway locations, including the one on 14th Street N.W. PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—will also deliver sandwiches to the D.C. City Council.
