What do trendy online retailer ModCloth, YouTube star Kalel Kitten, and a bag of Kettle Maple Bacon Potato Chips have in common? They all—along with scores of other businesses, musicians, athletes, and others—are making the world a better place for animals and battling it out for a Libby Award from peta2, PETA’s youth division. Now in its ninth year, the Libby Awards (“Libby” for “liberation,” as in animal liberation) includes a record 26 categories, which run the gamut from Best Use of Internet Stardom for Animals to Best Vegan Makeover to Best New Vegan Food Item. Visitors to peta2.com can cast their votes and enter to win a giant Libby prize pack filled with goodies from last year’s winners, including cookbooks, grooming products, vegan treats, and more.

ModCloth’s faux-leather From Head to Moto shorts caught the judges’ eyes in the Best Vegan Makeover category for creating a bad-girl look without harming any cows, but they’ll face tough competition from The North Face’s revolutionary, down-free ThermoBallTM line. A new category this year, Best Use of Internet Stardom for Animals, includes nominee Kalel Kitten, who exposed cruelty to rabbits on angora farms in a recent peta2 video. And the Best Accidentally Vegan Snack includes nominees such as Kettle Brand’s salty-sweet Maple Bacon Potato Chips—that’s right, vegan bacon-flavored chips.

“Today’s young people want their favorite brands and celebrities—from the mall and the grocery store to Twitter and YouTube—to care about animals as much as they do,” says PETA Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns Marta Holmberg. “All of peta2’s nominees are winners because they’re meeting the giant demand for food, fashion, and culture that’s on trend and kind to animals.”

Voting ends on December 12 at 12 p.m. ET. Libby Award winners will be chosen by peta2—whose motto reads, “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way”—based on several factors, including vote count, and will be announced on December 16.
