PETA has sent a care package to Hurricane and Jordan, the two Secret Service K9 officers who were kicked and punched while stopping a man who jumped the White House fence on Wednesday. Both dogs sustained minor injuries that were treated by a veterinarian, and they were cleared to return to duty on Thursday morning. PETA’s package includes heart-shaped toys and warm fuzzy blankets for the dogs to enjoy as they continue to recover.

“From the K9s who protect the president to the canines we share our homes with, dogs are second to none when it comes to limitless loyalty and love,” says PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien. “PETA’s get-well gift will help these courageous dogs get some more of the gentle care that they deserve.”

PETA, whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” encourages anyone with the time, willingness, ability, and resources to care for a dog properly to save a life by adopting from an animal shelter.

Among other charges, the jumper faces two counts of felony assault on a police officer for his attacks on Hurricane and Jordan.
