The fun of Oktoberfest will continue at PETA’s Norfolk headquarters on Monday, October 13, at an all-day spay/neuter marathon. For one day only, all spay and neuter surgeries will be $10—and they’ll come with a free beer for animal guardians to enjoy while their companions get “snipped”:
When: Monday, October 13, 8 a.m.–3 p.m.
Where: PETA’s Sam Simon Center, 501 Front St., Norfolk
Appointments are required and can be made by calling PETA at 757-622-PETA (7382), extension 3.
“Participants at PETA’s October spay and neuter fest will be toasting their dogs’ and cats’ happy and healthy futures,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “Spaying and neutering helps us all say, ‘Prost!’ to preventing more puppies and kittens from being born into an already overcrowded world.”
Every year, animal shelters are forced to euthanize millions of unwanted cats and dogs for lack of suitable homes. Countless other animals are abandoned to fend for themselves outdoors. PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” and the group is proud to offer free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries in Hampton Roads. In addition to not contributing to the companion animal overpopulation crisis, sterilized animals live longer and happier lives, are less likely to develop cancer of the reproductive system, and, in the case of neutered males, are less likely to roam or fight.
