10 PETA Members to Shower at New York City Climate Change March
With the devastating drought in California and the threat of a megadrought in the entire Southwest brought on by climate change, a coalition of more than 700 sponsors is organizing what will likely be the largest climate change rally in history. At least 100,000 people are expected to flood the streets of New York City on Sunday to demand action on climate change ahead of the United Nations summit on Monday.
And PETA will be on hand with a display that will certainly get people’s attention:
Ten nearly nude PETA supporters will march the route inside mobile showers, each with a shower curtain that reads, “1 lb. of Meat Equals 180 Showers. Save the Planet. Go Vegan.” Dozens of PETA supporters will march alongside the showers raising a massive banner that reads, “Meat: The Biggest Drain on the Earth.”
PETA points out to environmentalists and the public alike that it’s impossible to go green without going vegan. It takes about 1,000 gallons of water to produce just 1 gallon of milk and 2,500 gallons of water to produce just 1 pound of beef. Each vegan conserves an estimated 600 gallons of water every day.
The United Nations has also called the meat industry “a top contributor to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global.” And that includes climate change.
