Salt Lake City

Carriage for Hire, the only horse-drawn carriage company in Salt Lake City, has just announced its closure, one year after the tragic death of the horse Jerry. PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel Delcianna Winders has released the following statement:

When an ailing horse used by Carriage for Hire collapsed and died in his harness last year—and when the company tried to cover up his death—it was a wake-up call for Salt Lake City. PETA’s motto includes “animals are not ours to use for entertainment,” and dozens of protests have shown that horse-drawn carriages have no place in a modern metropolis. New York City will be the next to leave this archaic and cruel industry behind.

Video footage of Jerry’s collapse is available here.
