There’s no doubt that Rocsi Diaz, Angela Simmons, and k-os are sexy—but are they the Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities of 2014? That’s what peta2—PETA’s youth division, whose motto says, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—hopes to determine with this year’s edition of its annual contest, now live at peta2.com. The nominees are more varied than ever, as hip-hop’s finest vie for the title alongside indie rockers, Disney stars, punk icons, Oscar winners, pro athletes, and others. The winners—one male and one female—will be announced on August 25.
Entertainment Tonight correspondent and former 106 & Park host Diaz went vegetarian in college and, she says, immediately “felt cleaner and lighter.” Fellow contender Simmons—a fashion designer and hip-hop heir—was inspired to go vegetarian by her uncle Russell Simmons and believes that “adopting a vegetarian diet is the best way to keep innocent animals from suffering.” And Canadian rapper k-os has a similar stance. “[W]hen you stop eating meat, you stop supporting slaughtering animals,” he says. “I think that that is above and beyond the most important thing about not eating meat.”
The full list of nominees—which also includes Jared Leto and Ellen Page (whom PETA named the sexiest vegan celebrities for 2014) as well as Juanes, Grimes, Ariana Grande, and Zendaya—is available here. Voting to help peta2 pick who it should name as the winners ends on August 22.
