Ben’s Chili Bowl to Receive PETA Award for New Airport Site

Ronald Reagan Airport Eatery Now Serving Vegan Burgers, Vegan Chili

Famous Ben’s Chili Bowl has just opened its first airport restaurant, at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport—and its tasty vegan options, including a veggie burger topped with meat-free chili, have earned it a Best of Reagan Award from PETA. The group, whose motto says, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat,” will present the new eatery with a framed certificate on Tuesday afternoon.

“With a new location in Reagan National, kudos from President Barack Obama, and delicious vegan options that Bill Clinton would love, Ben’s Chili Bowl might just be the most presidential take-out joint in the district,” says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. “PETA’s Best of Reagan Award on Ben’s wall will let animal-friendly and health-conscious travelers know that they can find a hearty, tasty, cruelty-free meal whatever their party affiliation.”

Vegans are less prone to developing heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and cancer than meat-eaters are, and since the meat industry is a major source of carbon emissions that contribute to climate change, their carbon footprint is smaller, too. And of course, each person who goes vegan spares more than 100 animals a year immense suffering on factory farms, in slaughterhouses, and on the decks of fishing boats.
