Cow’s milk is the perfect food—for baby cows. But it’s one of the worst things that you can put in your body if you’re human. That’s why two PETA beauties in revealing dairy maid outfits will be on hand for the 32nd Annual Capitol Hill Ice Cream Party on Thursday to give away free Tofutti Cuties—delicious, melt-in-your-mouth vegan ice cream sandwiches. Their point? That members of Congress would perform more of a public service by hosting nutrition experts who understand the benefits of a plant-based diet than by palling around with dairy moguls whose profits are based on animal abuse and peddling food that can stop a heart.
When: Thursday, June 26, 4 p.m.
Where: Upper Senate Park (at the intersection of Constitution Avenue N.W. and Delaware Avenue N.E.), Washington
“The dairy industry torments cows and their calvesand methane from dairy farms fouls the environment,” says PETA’s Lindsay Rajt. “Dairy-free desserts lower the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis and are kind to cows.”
Cows on dairy farms are killed when their milk production declines, at 4 or 5 years of age—far short of their 25-year natural life expectancy. After their beloved calves are torn away from them, some mothers cry out for days.
