Who cares about doughnuts? PETA and millions of Americans do—that’s who! That’s why PETA’s “official” tasters set out to find the Top Six Vegan-Friendly Doughnut Shops in the land in time for National Doughnut Day (June 6). Their travels took them to Las Vegas, where Ronald’s Donuts grabbed the number three spot. You’ll generally find Ronald’s vegan selections on the top two shelves of the display case. Specialties include apple fritters, sugar and glazed twists, maple and sugar bars, chocolate rings, bear claws, tiger tails, and lemon and raspberry custard doughnuts.

“Like so many other successful companies, Ronald’s Donuts proves that meat-, dairy-, and egg-free foods are the best way to go,” says PETA Special Projects Manager Alicia Woempner. “All the bakeries on PETA’s list demonstrate how easy and delicious it is to choose cruelty-free treats.”

Taking top honors is Mighty-O Donuts in Seattle. Rounding out the top six spots are Vegan Treats in Bethlehem, Pa.; Pepples Organic Donuts in the San Francisco area; Tandem Doughnuts in Missoula, Mont.; and Le Cave’s Bakery in Tucson, Ariz. Honorable mentions go to Voodoo Doughnut in Denver and Portland and Eugene, Ore., and Donut Friend in Los Angeles.

Ronald’s Donuts will receive a congratulatory letter and a framed certificate from PETA.
