According to reports, two cats were found cut in half on Lakeland’s south side, another was found with a grapefruit-sized hole in his or her side, and many more cats have been reported missing. Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with these incidents. That’s why PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these crimes.
Would you please consider sharing this information with your audience? It might be the only way to apprehend those responsible for these gruesome acts.
“As Lakeland police have noted, people who torture and kill animals often go on to torture and kill humans—so PETA urges anyone with any information to come forward now, before anyone else gets hurt,” says PETA Director Martin Mersereau. “Families must also take care to keep their cats indoors—and if you see a cat roaming freely, do everything you can to get him or her to safety. You may be saving a life.”
Anyone with information about these incidents is encouraged to contact the Lakeland Police Department at 863-834-6900 or Crime Stoppers at 800-226-8477.
In addition to being hurt by a cruel person, cats who roam outdoors risk contracting communicable diseases; getting lost, injured, or hit by an automobile; or even being snatched by “bunchers”—people who steal dogs and cats and sell them for use in experiments.
