Dublin Native Is a Finalist in PETA’s ‘Sexiest Vegan Next Door’ Contest

PETA’s Sexiest Vegan Next Door 2014 contest is down to the wire, and 23-year-old Dublin native Kalpana Pot could take home the grand prize. That’s because she has beaten out hundreds of other entrants from across the U.S. to become one of 10 female contestants to advance to the final round. Two lucky winners—one female and one male—will each receive a free vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii, courtesy of HumaneTrip.com.

“Going vegan can help make you feel better on the inside, look better on the outside, and save the lives of more than 100 animals a year,” says PETA Special Projects Manager Alicia Woempner. “On average, vegans are fitter and trimmer than meat-eaters are, and that makes them sexier, too.”

Pot was born in Botswana and grew up in Dublin. She went vegan nearly a year ago after protesting at a slaughterhouse and says that she has never felt better. “I know I am in the best shape I have ever been in,” she says. “After going vegan, I love the way my body looks. I lost quite a bit of unwanted fat and have leaned out. My body just feels lighter and freer!” She has two little dogs, Bingo and Pluto, both of whom were rescued and neutered. One of her most harrowing—but treasured—experiences was coming across a pride of lions and a few wary rhinoceroses while on a photo safari in Africa. Pot—who also speaks Hindi, Telugu, and French—is very active in animal rights and has protested against circuses, fur, SeaWorld, and the Taiji, Japan, dolphin slaughter. She has a background in dancing and singing and recently has been acting on daytime soap operas. Her turn-ons include people who are smart, funny, ambitious, and mature—and they “should be vegan or on the path to becoming one.”
