PETA’s Sexiest Vegan Next Door 2014 contest is down to the wire, and 25-year-old Lakewood resident Jeb Brovsky could take home the grand prize. That’s because he has beaten out hundreds of other entrants from across the U.S. to become one of 10 male contestants to advance to the final round. Two lucky winners—one male and one female—will each receive a free vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii, courtesy of HumaneTrip.com.
“Going vegan can help make you feel better on the inside, look better on the outside, and save the lives of more than 100 animals a year,” says PETA Special Projects Manager Alicia Woempner. “On average, vegans are fitter and trimmer than meat-eaters are, and that makes them sexier, too.”
Brovsky—who plays soccer professionally for the Montréal Impact of Major League Soccer—credits his wife with helping him go vegan nearly a year ago, and he couldn’t be happier. “Being vegan has helped me greatly on and off the field,” says Brovsky, whose once severe asthma and food allergies have all but disappeared. “I have found that my recovery times between training sessions have decreased and my energy has increased.” He holds two degrees from the University of Notre Dame in business management and international peace studies, and he and his wife never miss an opportunity to protest the cruel Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus when it comes to town. When he’s not kicking the ball around or doing animal rights work, Brovsky is busy tending to his nonprofit called Peace Pandemic, which strives to end violence against women and children through soccer. He also strongly supports adopting animals from shelters—and with good reason: He was adopted himself.
Voting for the finalists to help PETA determine the winners ends at noon EDT on May 2. PETA will select the winners based on several factors, including vote count. See the full contest details here. Winners will be notified and announced by May 6.
