PETA’s Sexiest Vegan Next Door 2014 contest is down to the wire, and 30-year-old Hamburg resident Nancy Fried could take home the grand prize. That’s because she has beaten out hundreds of other entrants from across the U.S. to become one of 10 female contestants to advance to the final round. Two lucky winners—one female and one male—will each receive a free vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii, courtesy of HumaneTrip.com.

“Going vegan can help make you feel better on the inside, look better on the outside, and save the lives of more than 100 animals a year,” says PETA Special Projects Manager Alicia Woempner. “On average, vegans are fitter and trimmer than meat-eaters are, and that makes them sexier, too.”

Fried—a registered nurse who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and works at New York’s Mount Sinai Medical Center—went vegetarian at age 8 after a relative explained to her what happens to animals who are raised and killed for food. After dropping meat, eggs, and dairy products from her diet, she felt an immediate surge of energy and all-around feeling of well-being. Her motivation was clear: “I came to the realization that no form of animal use is morally justifiable and that human beings shouldn’t be wearing them or eating them when animal-free alternatives exist,” she says. Fried is the proud guardian of two small dogs, Champ and Gabby, both of whom are spayed or neutered, and designer Stella McCartney’s line of vegan accessories is her favorite. She’s Filipino on her late mother’s side, and her role model is supermodel Isabel Roces, who appeared in the first-ever pro-vegetarian campaign for PETA Asia-Pacific. Her turn-ons include a man who will gladly take her out to a vegan restaurant.

Voting for the finalists to help PETA determine the winners ends at noon EDT on May 2. PETA will select the winners based on several factors, including vote count. See the full contest details here. Winners will be notified and announced by May 6.
