PETA Succeeds in Replacing Head of ICCVAM
February 2013
For months, PETA had been calling for the dismissal of William Stokes, the head of the Interagency Coordinating Committee for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM), citing his decades-long failure to follow his agency’s congressional mandate to implement non-animal testing methods in tests required by the U.S. government. After hundreds of PETA members responded to an action alert on the issue, Stokes was removed from his position. His replacement is very proactive and has contacted PETA repeatedly and met with our scientists to discuss the future direction of the organization.
