PETA Adds Up to $5,000 to Reward to Nab Dogfighters

Two Dead Animals Found Near School; Still No Hard Leads in Case

On February 23, the remains of two brown pit bulls, both of them underweight and displaying bite wounds, were found along Hyde Park Road near McMillan Elementary School. According to local officials, the dogs appeared to be the victims of dogfighting. A certified cruelty investigator said that she had never seen dogs in such bad condition. Police have yet to arrest the person or persons responsible for the animals’ deaths.

That’s why PETA is adding up to $5,000 to the existing $1,400 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this violent crime.

“Dogs used for fighting are routinely maimed and mutilated, and when they’re no longer of any use to the dogfighter, they’re discarded and replaced,” says PETA Director Martin Mersereau. “It’s imperative to get these criminals—who are also often involved with guns and drugs—off the streets and put them behind bars, where they belong.”
