Seven-year-old Bryn Mawr resident Dylan Simon could be America’s next child star. That’s because he’s one of five male finalists in PETA Kids’ 2014 Cutest Vegan Kids contest, and now it’s up to voters to help PETA Kids decide whom it should pick as the winners—one boy and one girl—who will be announced on March 3. Voting ends at 12 noon EST on March 3, and each winner will receive a PETA Kids prize pack and appear in a PETA Kids ad.
“Dylan is very proud that he made the kind and healthy choice to go vegan, and his smart decision could soon place him in the national spotlight,” says PETA Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns Marta Holmberg. “Everyone who goes vegan saves nearly 100 animals every year from daily suffering and a terrifying death, and all our contestants are setting an example that should be followed by young and old alike.”
Dylan was diagnosed with autism in 2008, and his parents immediately went to work to alleviate his symptoms by making lifestyle changes, including to his diet. After removing all animal products, they noticed an immediate improvement in his behavior. Now, he talks up a storm and serves as a constant source of light and energy for the whole family. He has also become quite the little comedian, prompting his parents to start a special Twitter account just to keep track of and share his funniest lines. Dylan loves all animals and is particularly close with his cat Jackson and dog Lovey. His favorite foods include gluten-free cashew cheese enchiladas and chips and salsa.
PETA Kids will select the winners based on several factors, including vote count. See the full contest details here.
