PETA’s President Strips Totally Nude to Plead for Pigs (NSFW)

Chances are good that if you start e-mailing people at your job asking for a naked picture of your boss, you’re going to get fired. But at PETA, our boss is a bit different. She willingly shares her naked pictures far and wide to make a point, and she’s even willing to get one of them placed on a billboard because Ingrid E. Newkirk‘s philosophy is “We need to get over ourselves. All of us are the same: flesh and blood and feelings.”

And to make that point, she agreed to be strung up completely naked in a meat market for this photo, taken by Muir Vidler, surrounded by the bodies of slaughtered pigs:

In honor of National Pig Day on March 1, PETA is working to place this provocative, although censored, billboard in Indianapolis, since Indiana is one of the top pork-producing states. PETA is hoping to find a place for the “not safe for work” version as well.

As Ingrid points out, pigs, like other animals, experience love, fear, and joy, just as people do. They are made of the same flesh and bone that we are. They suffer when they’re slaughtered, just as we would. And like us, they don’t want to die painfully—or at all—to become a sandwich or a sausage.

Ingrid is willing to plaster naked images of herself on a billboard in order to save pigs from suffering.

What would you be willing to do? Perhaps leave them off your plate?
