Even though the poster at Hocker Grove Middle School listing ways that humans express their sexuality—including through intercourse and oral sex—has been taken down in the wake of at least one parent’s outrage, the debate about how best to educate students about sex rages on. That’s why PETA is trying to place its tongue-in-cheek “Sex Talk” TV ad in the Shawnee area.

The 30-second spot features a couple encouraging their teenage daughter to become sexually active and telling her that she can always get rid of the kids she has if she doesn’t want them. The ad concludes, “Parents shouldn’t act this way. Neither should people with dogs and cats.”

“The debate about the best way to educate kids about sex will probably go on forever, but for cats and dogs who have litter after litter, the verdict is in: Always spay and neuter,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “No one should be bringing more animals into the world when millions of animals are literally dying for lack of good homes.”

Six to 8 million cats and dogs enter animal shelters every year in the U.S., and roughly half of them must be euthanized because there simply aren’t enough good homes for them. The solution is simple: spaying and neutering as well as adopting from shelters instead of buying animals from breeders or pet stores.
