As North Carolina prepares for Winter Weather Awareness Week, PETA has a request for Gov. Pat McCrory: Make sure residents are given information about keeping all members of the family safe—including dogs and cats. In a letter sent today, the group points out that, every year, it receives thousands of complaints from across the U.S. about people who leave dogs outside in the cold, where they can suffer from frostbite, exposure, and dehydration.
“The tips for keeping animals safe in cold weather are simple—keep them indoors, and keep an eye out for neglected and stray animals—and they can save lives,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA appreciates the governor’s work to promote adoption and speak out against cruel breeders, and we hope he’ll continue his record of good acts for animals by including dogs and cats in Winter Weather Awareness Week.”
