Tom Hardy, Casey Affleck, Priyanka Chopra Plead for North Carolinians to Bring Chained Dogs Inside

“If you were going to chain me up and leave me outside, why did you get me at all?” That’s the question a group of Hollywood A-listers are asking on behalf of dogs kept tethered outdoors in a powerful PETA PSA airing in North Carolina throughout January’s Unchain a Dog Month. The poignant video features voiceovers from actors Tom Hardy, Casey Affleck, and Priyanka Chopra and real footage—taken by PETA’s fieldworkers—of dogs suffering alone outside in extreme weather, along with a plea to bring them inside.
“Every day, PETA fieldworkers find dogs chained outside 24/7 who are struggling to survive subfreezing temperatures, chronic deprivation of basic necessities like food, water, shelter, and veterinary care, and the detrimental impact of constant isolation and cruel confinement,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA urges everyone to bring their dogs inside with the rest of the family where they belong and to report cruelty and neglect wherever they see it.”
PETA’s PSA airs on WRAL (NBC) and WRAZ (Fox) in Raleigh through January 25. The spot is also running on WXII (NBC) in Winston-Salem and WBTV (CBS) in Charlotte.
Hardy, Affleck, and Chopra belong to a growing list of celebrities—including Paul McCartney, Natalie Portman, Michael Keaton, Alicia Silverstone, Thandiwe Newton, Brian Cox, Joaquin Phoenix, Woody Harrelson, Ryan Gosling, and Peter Dinklage—who have teamed up with PETA to promote kindness to animals.
