PETA is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the individual caught on video dragging two dogs tied to a car down a road in DeKalb County on September 13. Surveillance camera footage captured the suspect pulling into the parking lot of the Redan Recreation Center on Phillips Road in a dark, four-door sedan—believed to be a 2008 to 2012 Chevrolet Malibu—getting out of the car to untie the dogs from the bumper, and driving away. DeKalb County Animal Services later found the dogs—one of whom had died—with rope still around their necks. The surviving dog was treated for severe injuries. With the addition of a $6,000 reward offered by local animal protection groups, the total reward in this case is now up to $16,000.
The suspect has not been identified and may have other animals in his possession—and animal abusers are often repeat offenders who represent a threat to the entire community.
“The agony and terror that these two dogs must have endured as a cruel person bound them to a car, sped down the road, and left them to die in a parking lot is unimaginable,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA asks anyone with information to come forward immediately so this killer can be held accountable before they harm anyone else.”
Anyone with information related to the case should contact DeKalb County Animal Enforcement at 404-294-2939.
