Video: 4 Years Alone in a Pen Didn’t Crush This Dog’s Spirit—See Him Now!

Four long years locked up in solitary confinement could crush even the strongest spirit, but Timothy, a dog who endured this terrible boredom and neglect inside a tiny backyard pen, never lost his zest for life. See how we helped expand his world in a new PETA rescue video:

How PETA Rescued Timothy

PETA fieldworkers visited Timothy in a decrepit pen in rural North Carolina regularly, doing whatever they could to provide him with comfort and socialization, and each time, they tried desperately to convince his owner to relinquish him.

Timothy was kept in a small pen before his PETA rescue

Finally, when Timothy was about 4 years old, our team prevailed—and they wasted no time in unlocking the pen and whisking him away to a loving family in Syracuse, New York.

After the PETA rescue, Timothy moved to NY--and posed in front of the "I heart NY" sign

Now Timothy spends his days snuggling, hiking, and playing with his new family—and every night he sleeps comfortably indoors.

How You Can Help PETA Rescue Dogs Like Timothy

Thanks to PETA, Timothy was freed from a horrible pen and now lives in a loving home, but countless other dogs like him are confined or chained outside 24/7 without adequate food, water, or shelter in all types of weather.

To help dogs like Timothy, please support PETA’s work taking care of “backyard dogs,” advocate for tethering bans in your community, and work with elected representatives to help get ordinances that ban or restrict chaining passed. To get started, see what current legislation on tethering dogs exists in your community. Take action now:
