On the Halifax Mall on Tuesday, PETA will host a breakfast complete with delicious vegan goodies and some of the dogs the group has rescued from backyards, where they were kept perpetually chained or penned—including in the blistering heat or freezing cold. The event will give legislators a chance to fetch some treats, shake some paws, and learn how they can help support PETA’s work to end the cruel practice of keeping dogs tethered or penned outside 24/7 during all weather extremes in North Carolina.

“In backyards across North Carolina, vulnerable dogs are left to spend their entire lives trapped at the end of a chain with no respite from blistering heat, freezing cold, or loneliness,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA looks forward to meeting with legislators and exploring how we can work together to improve the lives of dogs across North Carolina.”

Where: Halifax Mall, 16 W. Jones St. (between the Legislative Office and the North Carolina State Legislative Building), Raleigh

When: Tuesday, June 11, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
