Los Angeles Film Awards Bans Projects That Endorse Animal Abuse

After hearing from PETA about the cruelty of Alaska’s Iditarod dog-sled race and of notorious musher Lance Mackey—which were promoted in a recent documentary—the Los Angeles Film Awards (LAFA) made the compassionate decision not to allow film submissions that endorse or glorify cruelty to dogs or any other animals in the future. With its new competition guideline, LAFA sent the message that forcing dogs to race until their bodies break down is nothing to celebrate. More than 150 dogs have died in the Iditarod, not counting those who suffered and died while chained up outside during the off-season or who were killed because they lacked the speed or stamina to make the grade. Now, please join PETA in urging Liberty Media to end its sponsorship of the Iditarod.
