Tomorrow, at the Urban Outfitters store near Nob Hill, an international week of action—complete with a unique bingo protest card—will land in Portland against the retailer as PETA supporters in cow, alpaca, sheep, and goat masks take action to demand that Urban Outfitters brands, including Anthropologie and Free People, leave leather, fleece, wool, and cashmere on their original owners, where they belong. Over 330,000 people have already joined the campaign against the company’s sale of animal-derived materials, and Saturday’s rally will be one of many held in Canada, Germany, the U.K., and cities across the U.S., including Boston, Cleveland, and Palo Alto, California.
When: Saturday, November 26, 11 a.m.
Where: Urban Outfitters, 2320 N.W. Westover Rd., Portland
“When holiday shoppers see how animals are beaten, cut up, and killed, we know they’ll leave cruelly produced clothing on the rack and opt for looks that don’t kill,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on Urban Outfitters brands to be animal-friendly retailers and sell only the fabulous vegan clothing they already offer so that this can be a joyous holiday season for all.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
