UCF Students to Raise a Ruckus Over School’s SeaWorld Ticket Sales

Sporting orca costumes, members of the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Knights for Animal Rights club will congregate at the Student Union on campus on Wednesday to demand that their university stop selling tickets to SeaWorld—until the abusement park releases the long-suffering animals to seaside sanctuaries and embraces animal-free entertainment only. The protest will be led by PETA intern and recent UCF alum Alexis Collum, who also helped the club gather 80 signatures in support of the campaign earlier this month.

When:    Wednesday, April 27, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Where:    UCF Student Union (by the John T. Washington Center mural, near the breezeway), 12715 Pegasus Dr., Orlando

“This is an opportunity for UCF to show its students that their voices matter,” says Rachelle Owen, senior director of PETA’s Students Opposing Speciesism (SOS) program. “These remarkable young activists are rightly calling on their university to stop promoting animal exploitation, and PETA stands behind them.”

Knights for Animal Rights is affiliated with SOS, a PETA-backed, youth-led revolt against the archaic notion that humans are superior to other animals and can exploit them for entertainment.

PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment.”
