Cold Snap Prompts PETA Giveaways: Free Straw for Dogs Left Outside

Because temperatures are expected to plummet below freezing overnight this weekend—placing animals kept chained or penned outdoors in danger of suffering from frostbite and exposure or even dying—PETA will hold two straw giveaways on Friday. Residents can pick up one bag of straw per dog for free to help insulate the animals’ outdoor shelters.
“Winter isn’t over yet, and this weekend’s freezing temperatures could be miserable or even deadly for dogs left outdoors,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “While PETA urges everyone to keep dogs indoors, where they’ll be safest and happiest, we’re offering a small measure of protection that will make a world of difference for them.”
