PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person(s) who sealed a Chihuahua inside several bags and abandoned her. PETA’s reward is in addition to the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter’s offer of a $1,000 reward, bringing the total potential reward up to $6,000.
According to the shelter, a man discovered the dog along the railroad tracks behind Gerresheimer Glass Inc. at 537 Crystal Ave. on Saturday morning. She was zipped inside a duffel bag, inside a tied-closed plastic bag, inside a tied-closed green grocery bag and was soaked in urine. The dog, now named Coco, is brown with a white chest and paws, is approximately 1 year old, and weighs only 6 pounds. She was shaken from the ordeal, and once she has fully recovered, she will be available for adoption.
Police are investigating this incident, and PETA is now asking for the public’s help.
“Someone bagged up this dog like trash and left her to suffocate or starve to death in terror,” says PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone who recognizes her to come forward so that whoever dumped her can be held accountable and stopped from hurting anyone else.”
Tipsters should contact the Vineland Police Department at 856-691-4111.
