“We Want You to Change.” That’s the message a sheep, cow, and goose have for Belltown residents and shoppers, courtesy of a sky-high message from PETA that just went up to urge people to clean their consciences—and their closets—by refusing to wear wool, leather, down, or anything else cruelly obtained from animals.
“When people learn that animals are left bleeding and screaming because of clothing, they’re eager to opt for cruelty-free, vegan fashion,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is encouraging kind shoppers to embrace a stylish, animal-free wardrobe.”
PETA entities’ investigations have revealed that workers leave sensitive sheep with bloody, gaping wounds at wool operations; burn, electroshock, beat, and slaughter cows for leather; pluck geese so roughly for down that they shriek in pain and fear; and abuse animals in other ways.
PETA’s ad is located at 2498 First Ave. in Seattle, near numerous retailers, including Patagonia, ZARA, Nordstrom Rack, Free People, Saks OFF 5TH, Anthropologie, and Urban Outfitters.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
