In a nationwide battle royal to see who takes the cake, Sprig & Vine has finished in the top tier. Beating out eateries from across the country, the local favorite clinched a spot on PETA’s list of the Top 10 Vegan Sweet Treats in the U.S. for its Cashew Cheesecake. Served on a ginger-cashew-oat crust and topped with vanilla-coconut whipped cream and blueberry ras el hanout coulis, this delectable dish is perfect for Valentine’s Day—or any day!
Sprig & Vine is offering several special sweets in February, including tiramisu served with bourbon-chocolate-coffee sauce, flourless black cocoa–almond cake served with vanilla cashew cream and mint–cocoa nib ice cream, and cranberry Linzer tarts served with blood-orange ice cream and ginger-maple syrup. These 100% vegan desserts can be ordered in advance by calling the restaurant.
“Sprig & Vine’s Cashew Cheesecake has won our hearts by spreading love to cows and hens,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “All the eateries on PETA’s list prove that it’s as easy as vegan pie to dish out delicious treats that are also sweet to animals this Valentine’s Day.”
Consumers’ demand for vegan food out of concern for animals, the environment, and their health has sent the vegan food market skyrocketing—it grew two and a half times faster in 2021 than it did between 2018 and 2020, and it’s expected to reach $22 billion by 2025.
Other winners on PETA’s list include HaleLife Bakery, with locations in Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Tampa, Florida; Jalen’s Bakery in Fresno, California; and Sweet To Lick in Williston Park, New York. Each will receive a framed certificate from PETA, which offers free vegan Valentine’s Day dessert recipes on its website along with a selection of sweet gifts from the PETA Shop.
