In a nationwide battle royal to see who takes the cake, Chaumont Vegan has come out in the top tier. Beating out eateries from across the country, the local favorite clinched a spot on PETA’s list of the Top 10 Vegan Sweet Treats in the U.S. for its Chocolate Cake. This double-chocolate heart-shaped confection is everything a Valentine’s Day treat should be—complete with fluffy pastry cream!
Chaumont Vegan is also making its other cakes—including matcha, gluten-free rosewater, and vanilla-strawberry—heart-shaped in honor of Valentine’s Day. Available for online orders now until February 14, each cake comes with a special rose. The bakery also offers customers its regular selections, including filled croissants, savory croissants, and sweet viennoiseries.
“Chaumont Vegan’s Chocolate Cake is as kind to hens and cows as it is choc-full of decadent flavor,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “All the eateries on PETA’s list prove that it’s as easy as vegan pie to dish out delicious treats that are also sweet to animals this Valentine’s Day.”
Consumers’ demand for vegan food out of concern for animals, the environment, and their health has sent the vegan food market skyrocketing: It grew two and a half times faster in 2021 than it did between 2018 and 2020, and it’s expected to reach $22 billion by 2025.
Other winners on PETA’s list include HaleLife Bakery, with locations in Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Tampa, Florida; Jalen’s Bakery in Fresno, California; and Sprig & Vine in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Each eatery will receive a framed certificate from PETA, which offers free vegan Valentine’s Day dessert recipes on its website along with a selection of sweet gifts from the PETA Shop.
