Texas Biomed’s Latest Money Grab to Fund Animal Torment: PETA Statement

Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President of Laboratory Investigations Kathy Guillermo regarding San Antonio’s proposal that $10 million of the city’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) fund—meant to help those in the community affected by the COVID-19 pandemic—be given to Texas Biomedical Research Institute’s Southwest National Primate Research Laboratory:

ARPA money should be used as it was intended: to address community needs related to COVID-19. It should not fund cruelty to animals and failed science. Texas Biomedical Research Institute already receives tens of millions of dollars in federal funding and profits from one of the most exclusive private clubs in San Antonio, The Argyle. City residents already made it clear during the city bond program proposal that they do not support using their tax dollars to fund Texas Biomed. This funding—all of it—should support those in the city who are truly in need, not a facility where monkeys have escaped, died by accidental strangulation and suffered from frostbite.
