Dog-Sled Team Hit by Truck; PETA Urges Musher to Drop Out

Below, please find a statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in response to reports that a team of dogs used by a musher registered for the Willow 300 and the Iditarod was hit by a truck, killing one of them and injuring others:

Jaye Foucher may now “get” what PETA has been saying for years: The dog-sledding industry is rife with dangers for dogs, from being hit by vehicles to asphyxiation, heart attacks, and freezing to death. No prize is worth a dog’s life, and we urge Foucher to do what’s right and best for dogs by dropping out of the Willow 300, the Iditarod, and racing altogether.
